It re-encodes your image at a quality level you choose. Lower quality means a smaller file. The tool shows the original size, the compressed size and how much you saved.
JPEG is supported everywhere and is a safe default for photos. WebP usually produces a noticeably smaller file at the same quality, and is supported by all modern browsers and platforms.
